About MI-CAR

Michigan Career Automated Researcher or MI-CAR is a free, career exploration and planning website developed and operated by the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth. MI-CAR (pronounced "my car") is designed especially for Michigan students; parents, job seekers, educators and counselors also benefit from using MI-CAR for career exploration and planning purposes.

Career exploration continues throughout a person's educational and work life. MI-CAR focuses on helping individuals learn about characteristics of occupations and identify personal work-related interests and strengths, making the match for satisfying careers. Visitors to MI-CAR are encouraged to work through Assessment tools: the Quick Assessment, Interest Profiler, and Work Importance Profiler, based on the Holland Codes for self-exploration.

MI-CAR offers comprehensive data on 900 occupations through the Occupational Information Network (O*NET) database. Click on Search to find state-specific wages, educational requirements, detailed descriptions of typical duties and responsibilities, job characteristics, worker attributes, projections on employment openings, and much more. In addition, 300 career-specific videos may be viewed showing featured occupations. Job openings on America's Job Exchange are easily accessible within each occupational profile. Job seekers can explore career options and check the latest job postings on the Michigan Talent Bank. Career Pathways and Resources provide even more information to help narrow down and prepare for careers of choice.
